Before you buy
- Meet the seller and see the actual boat before sending money.
- Arrange an independent marine survey and sea trial where appropriate.
- Verify the seller’s identity, ownership, title, registration, and any liens with the relevant authorities.
- Review maintenance records, equipment, and any claims in the listing for yourself.
- Use a written purchase agreement and a secure, traceable payment method. Be wary of pressure to act quickly or to pay through gift cards, crypto, or an unfamiliar escrow service.
Before you sell
- Keep messages and payment arrangements in writing, and confirm funds have cleared before handing over the boat or documents.
- Do not share account passwords, sign-in codes, or sensitive financial details in a message.
- Be cautious of buyers who overpay and ask you to return the difference, or who send a third party to collect the boat.
- Remove personal belongings and review what identifying information appears in your photos.
